Cels are one step on the way to making
an animated film the old fashioned way before digital methods became
the norm. A cel is created from the animator’s drawing; the image is
transferred to the acetate sheet either by hand in ink or by Xeroxgraph and
each cel is then hand-painted on the reverse side by cel painters. The
cel then is placed over its matching background and photographed, becoming a
part of the filmstrip. There are 24 frames per second and for fluid,
natural movement there are usually 12 cels per second photographed twice. When Chuck Jones and his daughter Linda
were approached in 1977 by Super Snipe Gallery In New York (owned by George
Lucas) to make a limited edition work of art – they came up with the idea
of making it a cel art. So, this limited edition of “Acme Road
Hog” is created in much the same way that an original production cel would
be. The line is transferred by serigraphy and each acetate sheet is
hand painted by expert cel painters. Cel is short for celluloid which
was used prior to 1955 and then, as now, acetate is used which is much less
flammable. The cels have the Estate Signature of Chuck Jones. He stopped signing in April of 2001 and died in February of 2002 but when he stopped signing, he chose one signature from many as his “official” signature which his daughter Linda has used ever since.

print "Highway
to Hell" Lithograph on 80 lb. paper. Size: 19" x 25"
Each print is individually signed by the artist. The setting is Vic's Bar on Highway 666 (in the Twilight Zone perhaps?), where bad-ass bikers and hot babes look on in astonishment as a crazed, hell-bound undead dude on a cool chromed chopper blazes right past them ...and in fact right out of the dang picture! -- L.G. Signed limited edition of 100 Signed limited edition of 51 giclee on canvas Signed limited edition of 51 giclee on canvas No worries, Eric didn't go off the deep end and start painting Butterflies and Bunnies! It's just the title of his latest painting. The "Wild Life" in this work of art is the people out having a bit of fun on a beautiful desert afternoon. Blasting down a two lane, crossing a double yellow, somewhere between finger rock and big breast butte, the biker, hot rodder, and their All-American, gun totin, passengers, have some harmless fun. The driver and rider pound fists while the gals flash and remove their Red, White, and Blue tops. As in most of Eric's work, it's the details that tell the story. The V/8 and other tattoos, cigarettes rolled in a sleeve, reflections from the bike passenger as they blow by the Bunny Star Ranch, The Goodguys sticker on the hot rod, and the 911 remembrance on the biker's rings, it's all there. A Bald Eagle, Diamondback Rattlesnake, Gila Monster, Coyote, and Roadrunner all add to the potential treachery and sense of freedom. Both the 51 Merc. (GNRS Winner) and the stunning bagger were home built by their owners. Visit the Eric Herrmann Gallery "'52
